Supporting Anglian Water’s Strategic Pipeline Infrastructure

At GVG Group, we’re proud to have supported G&V Gallagher in their contribution to one of the UK’s most significant water infrastructure programmes — Anglian Water’s Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA).

Project Overview

Over the past several years, the SPA has been delivering an ambitious network of interconnecting pipelines designed to transfer water from wetter regions in North Lincolnshire to drier areas across Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, and Essex. This strategic investment forms a key part of Anglian Water’s £11 billion capital programme, aimed at strengthening drought resilience and protecting environmentally sensitive water sources such as chalk streams.

To date, the SPA — comprising Costain, Farrans Construction, Jacobs, and Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) — has successfully delivered more than 200km of new pipeline infrastructure. With an additional 260km now commissioned, the programme will extend to an impressive 580km network — one of the largest of its kind in the UK.

Our Involvement

G&V Gallagher, part of the GVG Group, has been proud to play a supporting role within the SPA delivery framework, contributing essential civil engineering expertise and operational support across multiple sections of the pipeline rollout.

The team’s involvement in the LRT project, which went on to win Project of the Year, highlights the strength of collaboration and shared values across the alliance. This recognition is a testament to the exceptional planning, teamwork, and technical execution demonstrated by all partners involved.

Innovation and Collaboration

The Strategic Pipeline Alliance continues to set industry benchmarks for innovation and collaboration — introducing new approaches such as low-water commissioning using compressed air, reducing water use during pipe cleaning by up to 85%.

These advancements align closely with GVG Group’s own commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and environmental responsibility, ensuring the delivery of critical infrastructure that supports both people and the planet.
